Member of police auxiliary hit by motorbike

A MEMBER of the civilian auxiliary group supporting the Cebu City police’s Theft and Robbery Section (TRS) was hit by a speeding motorcycle trying to evade a checkpoint in Barangay Mabolo last Thursday night.

Larry Bardonado, 32, of Sitio Sangi, Barangay Pajo, Lapu-Lapu City and a member of the Anti-Robbery and Thievery Task Force (Artaf), was taken to the Cebu City Medical Center for treatment.

Chase

The driver of the motorcycle was identified as Jimdel Banac, 20, of Nivel Hills, Barangay Apas, Cebu City. He was arrested after a brief chase.

TRS Chief Michael Anthony Bastes said his men and Artaf members were conducting a checkpoint along F. Cabahug, Mabolo past 10 p.m., Thursday when the incident happened.

The Cebu City Police Office has stepped up its checkpoints following the order of PNP Chief Avelino Razon suspending all permits to carry firearms outside of one’s residence last Monday. The suspension order will last until tomorrow.

The team tried to flag down the motorcycle driven by Banac as he didn’t have a helmet on.

Injury

Instead of stopping, Banac allegedly sped away and hit Bardonado, who was standing along the road.

Bastes said Bardonado suffered a minor injury in the left leg, some bruises and a cut in the eyebrow.

Despite hitting the Artaf member, Banac reportedly continued driving.

After a brief chase, TRS operatives arrested him.

They discovered that Banac was driving without a license.

Bastes said Banac was turned over to the Traffic Section where he was charged with reckless imprudence resulting to physical injuries. (JST)
