Sunday, March 02, 2008 One-stop shop pushes business tax collection by P31M in Cebu City
THE Cebu City Council commended the City Treasurer’s Office (CTO) and the departments that helped set up a one-stop shop in a mall last January, resulting in a 10.26 percent increase in business tax collection.
The CTO, with the Management Information and Computer Services (Mics), established the one-stop shop for the renewal of business permits at the SM City mall from Jan. 1 to 31, 2008.
Collections totaled P333.273 million, which is 10.26 percent higher than last year’s P302.26 million.
The number of tax assessments surpassed the 20,000 target.
In sponsoring the resolution commending the team, City Councilor Roberto Cabarrubias said that while the performance was expected from the City Hall employees, as they are supposed to do their job well, he saw their dedication towards work.
More from banks
“Gibayaran man sila sa ilang overtime ba. Pero imong makita ang ilang dedication nga hapit na lang magbinuntagay didto aron maandam ang tanan og maatiman ang applications as many as possible,” he said.
“Their achievement not only exudes Filipino excellence but was as well a great source of pride and inspiration for their fellow public servants,” he added.
The P333 million, though, still excludes business taxes collected at the City Hall and through banks.
This means that the total business tax collection for the period this year is significantly higher than P333 million.
The CTO, though, still has to collate the figures to come up with a total tax collection.
Cabarrubias said it was the first time that the team in charged with the one-stop shop was commended, and they were happy with the recognition.
“The significant increase in business tax collection for the City of Cebu would not have been possible if not for the remarkable efforts and enthusiasm of the team,” read his measure.
“Their resiliency in the most trying circumstance and likewise their congeniality, unanimity and hard work mirrors the positive qualities of public servants,” it added. (RHM)
