Sunday, March 02, 2008 Jewelers hope on new import
CEBU’S multi-titled basketball mentor Raul “Yayoy” Alcoseba pinned his hope on his American reinforcement—Michael Jamar Le Blanc when his M. Lhuillier Kwarta Padala Jewelers test their game against the PBA’s most popular team Brgy. Ginebra Kings on Monday in another friendly game at the Cebu Coliseum.
This game is the second sports highlight of the 2008 Celebration of the Cebu City Charter Day Celebration, supported by the Cebu City Sports Commission chairman Michel Lhuillier and the BAP-SBP.
The six-foot-eight Le Blanc, who played with the University of Connecticut, Vanderbilt University and Houston Baptist University in the US NCAA Division I, arrived in Cebu yesterday morning and immediately joined the team to orient himself with Alcoseba’s system.
“He’s (Le Blanc) an all-around player. He can shoot, dribble, pass and rebound. I’m confident he would be of big help when we take on a very strong team such as Ginebra,” described Alcoseba.
In his last tour of duty, Le Blanc played in Slovenia’s NLB-Adriatic Basketball Association with the Helios squad before coming to the Philippines hoping to be picked as reinforcement in one of the PBA teams next conference.
And playing against Ginebra could give Le Blanc leverage in his aspirations.
With Le Blanc, M. Lhuillier’s front court made up of Ron Capati, Marlon Basco, Leo Bat-og, Enrico Llanto and Danny Aying would be competitive enough against the likes of Erick Menk, Billy Mamaril, Raffy Reavis, Mike Holper, JR Aquino and Gilbert Lao.
Le Blanc could also provide extra firepower to the wing and backcourt that will be manned mostly by Stephen Padilla, Woodrow Enriquez, Dale Singson, Bruce Dacia, Gerry Cavan, and Jayford Rodriguez. (RCM)
