NBI 7 'agent' gets detained for gun-poking, drunkenness

A 44-year-old man, who claimed to be a confidential agent of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), was arrested for allegedly pointing a gun at his neighbor in Sitio Ginabsan, Basak San Nicolas, Cebu City last Saturday night.

Romulo Guardiana Almendras was caught in possession of a caliber .45 pistol loaded with eight bullets. He was also cited for drunkenness, a violation of Cebu City Ordinance 1929. He was detained at the Mambaling Police Station.

Almendras was arrested by complainant Roldan Amber Delan, 25, at 11 p.m. Saturday with the help of Barangay Councilor Lanevie Fajardo, tanods and two operatives from the Mobile Patrol Group.

Almendras allegedly pointed a gun at Delan. Delan sought help from the barangay.

Mambaling Police Station Chief Andres Bayarcal, in an interview with reporters yesterday, said Almendras was turned over to the police station for investigation and detention.

Bayarcal said that based on the investigation conducted by his desk officer, the firearm taken from Almendras has proper documents.

Bayarcal, however, said that even if the firearm is covered by proper documents, Almendras could still be charged with grave threats for pointing a gun at Delan.

Bayarcal said they will know today if Delan will file a complaint against Almendras or not.

In case Delan decides not to file a criminal complaint against Almendras, the latter will only be cited for violating the city ordinance on drunkenness.

Almendras, in an interview with reporters at the detention cell, denied aiming his gun at Delan.

Almendras, who admitted to have taken liquor prior to the incident, said he and Delan were boardmates, with only a partition dividing their rooms.

Almendras said he was annoyed with Delan’s making noise in the other room, so he kicked the partition between them.

Almendras said he and Delan met outside their rooms. He said he pointed not a gun but his finger at Delan.

He said he was surprised when Delan later accused him of pointing a gun at him. (JST)
