Tanods arrest 2 rob suspects

TWO robbery suspects were arrested at dawn yesterday after victimizing a taxi driver along Molave St. in Barangay Camputhaw, Cebu City.

Antonio Suerte, 18, of Gorordo Ave. was caught first by tanods led by Romeo Oljol who happened to pass by the area while on preventive patrol.

A follow up operation by Theft and Robbery Section (TRS) operatives whom Suerte guided led to the arrest of the second suspect, identified as Michelle Rosales, 18.

Suerte and Rosales were identified as the ones who robbed Alexander Lañojan, 37, an Eistrup taxi driver.

TRS Chief Michael Anthony Bastes said the suspects flagged Lanojan along F. Cabahug St. in Barangay Mabolo past 3 a.m. and told him to proceed to Gorordo Ave.

When they reached Molave, the suspects allegedly declared a holdup.

One them poked a knife at Lañojan while the one seated at the back pinned him with an electric cord around the neck.

The suspects took Lanojan’s black wallet containing P2,500, a $1 bill, and an Argentina peso bill.

Fled

They then disembarked from the taxicab and fled.

Responding tanods, however, chased and arrested Suerte, who had a seven-inch knife with him.

A few hours later, TRS operatives led by SPO1 Edgar Galado arrested Rosales, who only yielded P1,100 of the cash taken from Lañojan.

Bastes said Suerte and Rosales will be charged with robbery today before the Cebu City Prosecutors Office. (JST)
