'The Prince' strikes in Universal Reality Combat

CARY “The Prince” Bullos showed his excellent striking skill and superb power against Tony Donaire to win via a first round referee stoped contest in Friday night’s action-packed fight of the Universal Reality Combat Challenge dubbed as URCC Cebu II: Visayan Pride at the Pacific Grand Ballroom in Waterfront Hotel and Casino in Lahug.

Bullos, who is also a submission artist, defeated Donaire, of the Republic Gym in Manila, in the first round of their two-round main event in the bantam weight (130-139 lbs.) division

Pride

The Visayan pride, of Self-Def MMA team, gave to Cebuanos something to be proud of when his opponent, who is much heavier, felt groggy after he delivered a solid kick to Donaire’s head. Bullos then took him down and rained hammer punches when he pinned, forcing referee Anthony Peñalosa to stop the fight at 1 minute and 38 seconds.

Bullos said that though his opponent was over the weight limit, at 151 lbs., he was challenged to fight since he was the main event and he was not the kind of person to back out, “what I did now is for all the Cebuanos”, said Bullos who made a history on his URCC debut last year when he knocked out his foe with one kick to the head in just 26 seconds in the first round.

He now improved his record to 10-0 win-loss slate and his URCC record to three wins without defeat.

Debut

In the supporting main event, three-time Sea Games Gold medalist in wrestling and two time Grapplers League Champ, Marcus Valda, made a successful URCC debut after edging out URCC veteran Benji Gloria through hard punches to his nemesis’ head and kicks using his knee at the side of Gloria’s back. He pinned down then grappled with the latter making the referee to halt the fight with 1:16 in the first round in their light heavy weight clash.

“Hit him with my kneww on the side and I heard him cry in pain. I didn’t stop attacking, so that was it,” said Valda of Deftac Team in Manila.

Valda, who is also a four-time UAAP Judo Champ and Grapplers Cup champ, said, “I just did our game plan, at pinaganda ang striking ko.”

In other fights, Junmar Macaraya blew three successive take downs on Aaron Guevara. Guevarra reversed the position and fought back after he was pinned down then headlocked Macaraya by using his feet forcing Macaraya to tap out in the first round for his win.

Foul

Mike Tabamo, on the other hand, also won via first round tap out by using the guillotine choke against Edmund Fernandez while Jet Lumaog scored a referee stopped contest (RSC) against Geronimo Etac, also in the first round.

Maxlito Yong won over Eugene Yongke; Charlie Angel was beaten by Jessie Rafols; Andrew Benibe edged out Rodel Chua via a first round tap out while Alan Factura and Gian Vicuana won respectively against their opponents Neil Dungog and Demetrio Dela Torre in two rounds.

The fight between Cebuano Mark Arquillano and John Armoganda was cancelled after Armoganda did not hit his weight limit in the bantamweight division. (NSM)
