Monday, March 03, 2008 Jewelers add gem vs. Gin Kings
WITH its reinforcement adopting the team’s system quickly, the M. Lhuillier Kwarta Padala Jewelers are hoping to put up a good fight and definitely win the friendly game against the Brgy. Ginebra Kings tonight at the Cebu Coliseum.
The game, which is part of the Cebu City Charter Cup Celebration, is expected to draw a very huge crowd as the Gin Kings seldom goes out for a friendly game outside of the PBA bailiwick.
The Jewelers are pinning high hopes on the 6-foot-8 American import Michael Jamar Le Blanc to provide extra muscle inside the shaded lane against the very wide-bodied and taller Kings front liner lead by the 6-foot-6 Eric Menk.
Cebu Coliseum manager Ben Tulda himself believed that the gate sales would surpass the 5,000 attendance last Feb. 21 when the Jewelers played against Talk ‘N Text Phone Pals.
“When the news broke out about this game, the Coliseum phone never stopped ringing, we got a lot of inquiries about the tickets, probably double than the Talk ‘N Text game,” Tulda said.
Being the most popular team in the professional league, the Gin Kings are out to give the Cebuanos a very good basketball treat while the Jewelers are eyeing to play with their best and pull an upset victory.
Back in August 2006, the Jewelers scored an upset win over Sta. Lucia Realtors at the Cebu Coliseum. However, San Miguel Beermen did not fold a month later and the Phone Pals survived a tough game to deny M. Lhuillier the victory 11 days ago.
Tickets are prized at P300 for the ringside, P200 for the lower box, P100 for the upper box and P30 for the general admission. (RCM)
