4 cops face probe for 'closing police station'
FOUR policemen, including a police inspector, are facing an investigation for allegedly closing their police station when a crime victim came to report an incident.
Sr. Insp. Abraham Ocampo, Casuntingan Police Station chief, ordered is investigating four of his men over the allegation.
Ocampo also asked 21-year-old Joel Batiancila, the complainant, to specify what time he went to the police station. Ocampo said his men denied leaving the station.
Three unidentified men aboard a motorcycle bumped and then robbed Batiancila at 1:30 a.m. Saturday in barangay Cabancalan. When the victim was brought to the police station to report the incident, the office was allegedly locked and the lights were off.
Ocampo said the incident was not recorded in the police blotter, that’s why they did not know of the incident.
He said he conducted checkpoints on Friday and Saturday night. He then inspected his men scheduled to be on duty.
The duty official on Friday night until Saturday morning was Police Insp. Bonifacio Velasco. His desk officer was PO3 Rey Manatad and his mobile crew were PO1 Renato Berdon, PO1 Gerry Lascuña and PO1 Sandre Torres.
Velasco was also the officer on Saturday night until Sunday. His desk officer was PO3 Dexter Martin and mobile patrol crew were PO3 Gregorio Sabal and PO1 Leomar Ricaplaza.
Members of the mobile crew are always out, responding to alarms, but the desk officer and the duty officer are supposed remain at the station.
Casuntingan police station occupies a building with two other offices. Coming from the main highway, the first door leads to the barangay hall, the second door leads to the barangay health center and the third door to the PNP station.
The first and second doors are closed at night, since they have no night duties. Only the PNP office is open 24 hours a day. (OCP)
