Wednesday, March 05, 2008 Cacoy Doce Pares to hold seminar
TWELVER countries will be joining the second International Martial Arts Seminar organized by the Cacoy Doce Pares World Federation on March 7 to 9 at the City Sports Club Cebu featuring four martial arts Grandmasters.
In a press conference yesterday at the Doce Pares headquarters in C. Padilla, US Grandmaster Richard Bustillo, who is a world heavyweight champion, said the seminar is held to share the legendary Ciriaco “Noy Cacoy” Cañete’s expertise in the Eskrima, which is the native martial arts in the Philippines.
Bustillo, an LA-based actor and the partner of the legendary martial artist, the late Bruce Lee, will be handling the Jeet Kune Do in the seminar, while Cañete will be teaching the Eskrima, Eskrido and the Pangamot self defense.
Event organizer Chuck Cañete, Cacoy’s grandson, claimed Eskrima was the form of Martial Arts used by Lapu-Lapu against the Spaniards, while Eskrido is Eskrima integrated with other forms of martial arts like Judo and uses advance fighting techniques using the stick or garrote.
On the other hand, the Pangamot is a defense system that uses bare hands in disarming or in defense.
Grandmaster Anthony Kleeman will also teach kickboxing and also eskrima, while Australian Vince Palumbo will handle kickboxing and boxing.
Meanwhile, on March 8, the group will finally have the induction of their Hall of Fame for 64 martial arts enthusiasts who have helped spread the sport all over the world, a plan that took two years to hatch.
“We started planning two years ago to have the induction of Doce Pares Hall of Fame here,” said Bustillo.
Some of the awardees are US GM’s Dan Inosanto, Bustillo, Palumbo, and former actor Roland Dantes.
The Hall of Fame ceremony will be held at the Holiday Plaza Hotel with Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña as the guest speaker and one of the recipients of the Special Awards for his undying support to the organization. (NSM)
