PRO 7 chief awaits report on 'closure' of police station

POLICE Regional Office (PRO) 7 Director Ronald Roderos is expecting a report from the Mandaue City Police Office (MCPO) regarding reports of a police precinct that was closed when a robbery victim arrived to seek help.

Roderos said he has ordered an investigation on the incident and wants a report on his desk “as soon as possible.”

Asked what action will be imposed on Senior Insp. Abraham Ocampo, chief of Casuntingan Police Station, Roderos said he is leaving it to MCPO Director Rodel Calungsud since he is Ocampo’s direct superior.

“We will let him exercise his leadership capability on how to go about it,” he said.

Four officers, including a police inspector, are facing an investigation after Joel Batiancila arrived Saturday dawn to report that he had been robbed by three men on a motorcycle.

Batiancila alleged that when he arrived to report the incident, the police station was locked and that all the lights were switched off.

Initially, they reportedly denied leaving the police station or locking it up while they slept inside.

Roderos lamented that police stations should not be closed at any time of day.

“We have to be open 24 hours a day to serve and protect our people,” he said.

Regarding allegations that there were no lights in the police station, Roderos said that they take care of all the bills.

He said that if funds are not immediately available, they should advance the payment since they will be reimbursed with the full amount as long as they can produce official receipts. (MEA)
