Thursday, March 06, 2008 Walk that extra mile, police told
IN promising to give her “unwavering support” to all the programs of the Cebu Provincial Police Office, Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia also asked the officers to raise their standards of excellence in the performance of their duties.
“I ask that you walk that extra mile and push a little further to see to it that this number one province in the entire country will indeed serve as a beacon of hope,” Garcia said during yesterday’s celebration of the 17th PNP Anniversary.
Before her speech, Garcia, along with Police Regional Office (PRO) 7 Director Ronald Roderos and CPPO Director Carmelo Valmoria, handed 12 individual and unit awards to the best performers of the CPPO and 28 plaques of appreciation to individuals who supported the CPPO in 2007.
“I ask all of you, men and women of the Cebu Provincial Police Office, to continue to serve our great people by doing what you are expected to do and even more,” Garcia said.
She said she has always made peace and order a priority because it is the “most basic requirement of progress and development.”
Performance
Valmoria, for his part, thanked the governor for her assistance.
Before introducing her as guest of honor and speaker, Valmoria congratulated his officers for their performance in the past year.
He pointed out a “significant” decrease in index crimes and the dismantling of the New People’s Army’s Front 2 Committee, which used to operate in Cebu’s mid-north area.
He noted a decrease of 17 percent or 471 incidents in index crimes.
“These are tangible results of the resolute collaboration of the local government units, Armed Forces of the Philippines and the Philippine National Police,” Valmoria said.
Lapu-Lapu City Police Office Director Louie Oppus was awarded best senior police commissioned officer while his command was named best city police station.
Deputy Provincial Director for Operations, Supt. Erson Digal, and Operations Branch chief, Chief Insp. Elmer Lim, were awarded staff officers of the year.
Awards were also given to Senior Insp. Edwin Ermac, SPO4 Erlinda Lim, SPO3 Mansueto Vicente Lopez, SPO1 Ruel Dinoy, PO3 Maria Fay Isidro, PO1 Melissa Tampus and non-uniformed staff member Casimero Tisoy.
The best municipal police station was Compostela.
The CPPO also gave out plaques of appreciation to Garcia, PB Member Agnes Magpale, town and city mayors, and private and government officers who collaborated with the CPPO last year.
Requirements
Though Camp Crame already signed orders for the Lapu-Lapu City Police to be independent from the CPPO, the PRO 7 has not yet issued implementing orders as it is finalizing all the requirements for a police office.
Roderos also extended his congratulations to the CPPO for the peaceful results of two elections and the success of the 12th Association of Southeast Asian Nations Summit last year. (MEA)
