FASHION designer Rinante Manabat centers his inspiration on roses. Rosettes, folds of fabrics formed into rose-like appliqués, become the design focal of his summer bridal collection.
“I’d love to work with feminine designs and materials,” Rinante explains. “And these rosettes would really make the collection feminine.” And he prefers roses, which are in full bloom.
He also admits that summer is “full of sunshine and warmth.” Comfort should be a major fashion statement.
Unlike the traditional June ceremonies, the bride must wear a comfortable dress to withstand the summer heat. “I like the dress to be comfortable and breezy. And a design that can still be worn in other occasion,” he suggests.
With feminine cuts from the waist to the hemline, Rinante employs “easy” materials and fabrics, such as chiffon and taffeta. The style advances through, as fashion observers would often say: sophisticated fabrics like silk and shantung. Lace retains the classic mood.
Oh, dear brides, the cuts are forgiving. With silhouettes like the empire and the A-line, any body shape would look sleek. “Necklines should also be open to keep the fresh feeling; it’s hot during summer.”
Exchanging “I dos” shouldn’t be complicated. Choose a dress that suits your taste and budget. “I can work within the budget of the couple. I should be working along with the bride,” he says.
Manabat creates a wide range of clothing under his own label and he stays at Door 1, Flor Pet Building, Salinas Drive, Lahug.
