Melindo, Effendi make weight easily

THE main protagonists face each other peacefully for the last time in yesterday’s weigh-in at the famed ALA Gym before gunning for each other’s heads in tonight’s meeting at the Mandaue Cultural and Sports Complex.

Both Milan “Milenyo” Melindo (14-0, 4 KOs) and Sofyan “The Cobra” Effendi (7-4-1, 6 KOs) and took turns in stepping on the weighing scale in the yesterday’s weigh-in. The shorter Milendo tipped the scale at 106 ½ pounds, while the taller Effendi was three pounds lighter.

For Mario Lumacad, the chief trainer of Elorde Gym, who is accompanying the Indonesian in his stay in Cebu and has known the 22-year-old since he was nine, thinks the weight difference doesn’t matter.

“There will be no need to worry about their weight difference because its normal to have another boxer heavier than the other,” Lumacad told Sun.Star Cebu yesterday.

Fellow ALA boy Weng Haya (9-1, 6 KO’s) equaled veteran journeyman Pedro “Cobrita” Malco’s (14-15-2, 5 KO’s) weight of 124 pounds.

Jason Pagara (12-1, 6 KO’s) tipped the scales at 133 pounds, while his opponent William Jorge (4-3) weighed three pounds more at 136 pounds. (EKA)
