Monday, March 10, 2008 Speak Out: Show of gratitude By Herbert P. Devilleres Poblacion Uno, Malabuyoc, Cebu
I AM a true-bloodied resident of a sleepy but beautifully scenic and rustic fifth-class town in the south, nestled in the lush vegetation of its mountain range and bounded by the beautiful Tañon Strait with its picturesque sunset, Malabuyoc. This town is inhabited by deeply religious, peace-loving people who still maintain the tradition, cultural heritage and values of spirituality, hospitality, honesty and gratefulness inculcated in them by their forebears and passed down from generation to generation.
The seat of the Municipal Government of Malabuyoc was an antiquated Municipal Hall standing on a land that is a temporality of the Catholic Church. But now under the able leadership of Mayor Daisy Creus, who is not a Malabuyocanon by blood but only by affinity, there has been a notable change in the Malabuyoc of the old.
On the land owned at present by the Municipality, out of the generosity and love of the heirs of Faustino and Monica Creus, who donated 7,720 square meters of prime lot, now proudly tands the newly constructed Municipal Hall and a sports complex for the youth, a condition in the deed of donation.
Malabuyocanons can be proud of these structures. The irony is, the very family who donated the land was never acknowledged. Their simple request was only that they be allowed to put up a small unobtrusive marker dedicated to their deceased parents in honor of their great love for the townspeople. The honorable mayor denied this.
It is then in the context of the value of gratitude which Malabuyocanons hold dear that we implore members of the august body, the honorable members of the Municipal Council under the leadership of Vice Mayor Lito Narciso Creus, nephew of the donors, to pass a resolution expressing their gratitude to the magnanimous act of these donors and to allow them to place a marker in honor of their deceased parents Faustino and Monica Creus on the land that they donated.
