Police to assist NBI in murder inquiry

CEBU Provincial Police Office (CPPO) Director Carmelo Valmoria said they will support the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) in the investigation on the killing of businessman Reinerio Arrogante III.

A sketch has been made of the gunman, based on the description recalled by other witnesses. However, Valmoria declined to release it, saying they have yet to show it to the family.

Arrogante’s wife and son were with him when a lone gunman shot him inside the Mainroad Square complex in Barangay Poblacion, Daanbantayan last Sunday morning.

A gunman shot him five times and then casually walked to a waiting black motorcycle.

Valmoria said a copy of the sketch will be submitted to the NBI agents handling the case.

He also assured to provide whatever assistance the NBI may need from them, adding that they could also provide security for the family members if they request it.

Valmoria explained that the police did not want a duplication of functions and that they respected the family’s preference for the NBI to take the lead in the investigation. The NBI belongs to the Department of Justice.

“Anyway, we all belong to the law enforcement pillar,” he said.

Senior Insp. Jovito Canlapan, Daanbantayan police chief, was instructed to give all the information they have gathered to the NBI agents who went to the town yesterday.

Valmoria assured that all angles will be considered. “We also have to understand that the family is still in shock. They are still busy with the wake. We want this heinous crime solved,” he said. (MEA)
