Lapu-Lapu plays Bogo in finals

IT’S the Lapu-Lapu City Chiefs and the Bogo City Bogoys who will be vying for the first ever Cebu Inter-City Basketball title after sweeping their separate rivals in the semifinal round.

The Chiefs eliminated the Danao City Pistoleros, 71-65, last Sunday at the Danao Civic Center in Danao City, while the Bogoys wrapped the series following a 95-81 victory over the Talisay City Aquastars at the Talisay City Sports Gymnasium last Monday.

Game 1 is scheduled later this week with the Chiefs hosting the crucial first encounter of the best-of-three championship series.

Jar-Jar Degamo and Manny Pancho formed the deadliest weapon in coach Larry Villanil’s arsenal that led to Lapu-Lapu City’s entry to the championship round.

Meanwhile, Bogo started strong and left Talisay struggling early in the game with Noel Balili and Jun Ace Ursal leading the charge for coach Hermes Sumalinog’s Bogoys.

Talisay’s only bright spots were Arvie and Ican Cabañero who proved to be the deadly inside combination for coach Jury Violango.

However, Talisay could not find the needed spark as Bogo displayed fluid offense and defense.

Bogo had an 80-58 lead entering the final period when the Aquastars made a daring 12-0 run while holding the Bogoys scoreless for the four minutes. (RCM)
