3 Talisay students win national tilt in science, honored

THREE high school students made Talisay City proud for romping off with top awards in the recently-held regional and national science quiz contests.

In three separate resolutions, the Talisay City Council commended AC Griffith C. Caruana, Ritchie R. Abella and Melvic C. Ybañez, all of Talisay City Science High School (TCSHS), “for giving honor and prestige to the City of Talisay as achievers of the year.”

Both Caruana and Abella were awarded first place in the Regional Intel Philippines Science Fair (RIPSF) and Aboitiz Whiz Quiz finals at Ecotech Center in Barangay Lahug, Cebu City.

They also bagged the eighth place in the 5th National Science Quest held in Sta. Cruz, Laguna last Feb. 4 to 6.

For his part, Ybañez was awarded first place in the Aboitiz Whiz Quiz finals also at Ecotech Center, Lahug, Cebu City.

Caruana and Ybañez are TCSHS fourth year students while Abella is a freshman of the same school.

Education

“It is appropriate for the City of Talisay to acknowledge and recognize the ability of our Talisaynon school children in such an event,” read Councilor Dennis Basillote’s resolutions.

Basillote, council committee chairman on education, added that the feat of the three students “does not only bring honor and fame to the City of Talisay, but is also worthy of praise as a model to our school children in Talisay.” (GC)
