Sunday, March 16, 2008 Festin-Baybay: Girls' Month By Tita Dulce Festin-Baybay That's right!
THAT’S right, Kidsters! You must have read somewhere or heard that March is women’s month. For us here at our corner, we can say it is Girls’ Month.
The role of girls, who will grow up to be women, is so important that a whole month has been dedicated to us, whatever our age is. I want to include girls here, not because they are still young, but also because of the importance of growing up to be women with the right discipline and values.
What do I mean by this? I want to emphasize that whatever you learn while you are still in school will determine what kind of women you will be when you grow up. If you are obedient and if you study hard, this is good for all girls. If you start to be active in sports or learn skills like cooking, sewing, painting, or playing the piano, these are good practices so that when you grow up, you are well-equipped.
I remember when I was still in high school many, many years ago. I learned to memorize the position of letters in typewriters . Because of this skill, when I use my computer today, I do not look anymore at the keyboard and I can type very very fast. As a writer, this is an important thing to learn.
While still young, you should also learn to be patient, to control your temper and to read constantly in order to be more acceptable to others when you become women.
You know, Kidsters, you are only young once and whatever you are today, enjoy and be open to learning as much as you can. Enjoy your youth by mixing play with study. Enjoy your youth by finding out what really makes you happy at all times so that when you grow up, you will know what kind of woman you would want to be and what kind of work will really make you successful.
Girls have dreams and to make your dreams come true, you have to start as girls to work for it. This month of March, all attention is on girls and women. We are that important in the world. So for this month, here’s to us, girls and women!
