Peñalosa defends belt

AFTER the epic rematch between Manny Pacquiao and Juan Marquez today, the Filipino fans can look forward to another extravaganza when World Boxing Organization bantamweight champion Gerry “Fearless” Peñalosa defends his title against Thai Ratanachai Sor Vorapin in Manila.

Peñalosa will defend his title for the first time after he scored a convincing seventh-round KO of Jhonny Gonzales last year.

The “Fearless” was recently awarded by the Sportswriters Association of Cebu-San Miguel Corporation (SAC-SMC) along with ALA boy Donnie “Ahas” Nietes as Athletes of the Year in the 26th SAC-SMC last March 8 as the co-Athletes of the Year.

In this event dubbed “Invasion: Philippines vs. the World” ALA Gym’s AJ “Bazooka” Banal will be facing undefeated Uruguayan Caril “El Raton” Herrera for the No.1 contender spot in the IBF super flyweight category.

Another ALA boy, Rey “Boom Boom” Bautista, will see action as he defends his WBO Intercontinental junior featherweight against Genaro Camargo of Mexico.

Rising star Ciso “Kid Terrible” Morales will also defend his WBO Oriental super bantamweight crown against Yoo Shin Kim of Korea.

Other fighters seeing action will be Michael Domingo and Bert Batawang. (EKA)
