SMB QC 9-Ball starts today; $25T hangs

TODAY, the best cue masters of the country will face each other in the first of a 3-day billiard extravaganza of the San Miguel Beer-Quezon City 9-Ball Championship at the Trinoma Mall in Quezon City.

Among the 32 participants are seeded players and pool legend Efren “Bata” Reyes, Alex Pagulayan, Ronnie Alcano, Francisco “Django” Bustamante, Dennis Orcollo, 2007 World Pool runnerup Roberto Gomez, reigning national champion Lee Van Corteza, former Asian Games gold medalist Gandy Valle, Rodolfo Luat, Warren Kiamco, Ramil Gallego, Joven Bustamante and top female billiard player Rubilen Amit.

Also joining the top cue masters are Visayas representatives William Chua of Cebu City and Romar Villones of Talisay City, Northern Luzon qualifier Aram Serquiano and Mindanao qualifier Romeo Timcang.

The tournament is presented by San Miguel and organized by Puyat sports, Negros Billiards Stable and Bugsy Promotions.

This event is also sponsored by Philipine Amusement and Gaming Corporation, Trinoma and Ayala Malls and will be supervised by the Billiards Managers and Players Association of the Philippines.

The Prize at stake for the first major billiard tournament in the Philippines this year is $25,000. (EKA)
