Council asks police to increase visibility

THE Cebu City Council asked the PNP yesterday to increase police visibility inside churches, terminals, ports, and similar places for the Holy Week.

“Criminal elements will tend to strike during the week-long observance of Holy Week considering the high concentration of people from all walks of life in certain public places,” the council said.

Criminals, it said, tend use the crowd as “cover.”

The council also reminded the PNP to tightly guard business establishments and residential areas.

The PNP has been reminding the public not to leave their homes or businesses unguarded.

The Holy Week gathers people in churches, religious shrines, and other places of worship.

Vacation

Others take advantage of the long vacation and relax in the beach and other vacation spots.

“While the religious activity calls for calmness and sobriety, still, the same is no reason for the law enforcement agencies to be complacent and let their guard down in the wake of the recent daring rob-slaying of some victims,” read the resolution that City Councilor Edgardo Labella sponsored.

Labella said “common sense” dictates that banks, gasoline stations, pawnshops, lending houses, Internet cafes, and similar business establishments should keep security tight during holidays.

“Business establishments should not loosen their internal security setup so that the same will have a reinforced defense against lawless elements,” he added. (RHM)
