Siso ready for Asian 14-Under Championships

SALLY Mae Siso completed her training at the Pusat Tenis Kemayoran yesterday and will be starting her bid in the Asian 14-Under Championships at the same venue in Jakarta.

In her three-day training, Siso encountered some ups and downs. All Filipino players were made to play in tie breaks against those from other countries.

In the first day, Siso, who is the tennis stalwart of University of San Carlos South Campus, stayed perfect and defeated the players of Indonesia, Hong Kong and Syria.

In the second day, Siso unluckily joined the killer group and dropped all five of her matches.

Her teammate Shaneen Olivarez was able to win three out of her five matches in the second day. In the boys team, Arjohn dela Cruz had the best last day finish with four wins against one loss, while Deo Talatayod registered one win and Enrique Ferrer failed to win even one match.

Head coach Mateo Ferrer, however, was positive that the players will pick their up game in the tournament proper today.

“This tie break competition is only for seeding purposes and they usually do better as the tournament progresses,” Ferrer said in a text message to Sally Mae’s mother Sally.

The competition proper starts today. The Filipino junior netters not only have to try breaking their opponents but also need to survive through the heat.

Sally Mae was not concerned if she won or not but was rather more concerned of the heat.

In a text message to her mother, Sally Mae took her losses in stride and instead complained of the heat which had burned her skin.

Today’s competition is sanctioned by the International Tennis Federation and the Asian Tennis Federation. (MCB)
