Thursday, March 20, 2008 Sportscapade '08 hits Bantayan today
MAUNDY Thursday marks the start of what could be a dreary Holy Week weekend but not in Bantayan Island though as it will be stirred with an exciting three-day Bantayan Sportscapade which opens shop today at the Sugar Beach Resort in the municipality of Sta. Fe in Bantayan Island.
Opening up an exciting weekend is the triathlon competition, which starts at 1 p.m. The event will have competition for the 19-Under, 20 to 29, 30 to 40 and the 40-above age groups in the men’s division. The women’s class, meanwhile, will only have an open category.
The triathlon race follows the Olympic distance of a 1.5-km. swim, 40-km. bike and a 10-km run.
The Ocean Man will also be staged on Friday.
Racers are made to swim a 200-meter course and run for 300 meters. This will be repeated four times and the racer to still have the energy to finish will win the title.
The mini-adventure race will be the last event and will be held on Saturday and will have teams of three. (MCB)
