Billiards idol holds 3rd leg

AFTER a long break in observance of the Holy Week and to give way to the San Miguel Beer-Quezon City 9-Ball Championship, the third Search for the New Billiards Idol resumes today at the AMF-Puyat Billiards Center in New Farmers Plaza in Cubao, Quezon City.

Tournament official Jojo Santos yesterday said more than 50 aspiring cue artists have signed up for the tournament third leg today. The leg was originally set last March 21-22.

Santos expects more players to turn out today hoping they can make it big in the sport to become the country’s next billiards star.

Players will be vying for the P10,000 top purse and an Edwin Reyes cue stick, while the runner up will receive P5,000. The two other semifinalists will each take P2,500.

The twice-a-month tournament is open to all cue artists except those who are already in the so called “Class O” or all-star level.

The tournament, which is sanctioned by the newly formed Billiards Managers and Players Association of the Philippines, is staged to discover new talents from the grassroots level and to hone their skills in an upcoming competition against top billiards players here and abroad.

Registration fee is pegged at P200 while the tournament will start at 12 noon. (NSM)
