Siso tallies 2 wins in Asian 14-Under Championships

AFTER days of struggling for a victory, Cebuano junior netter Sally Mae Siso finally made a huge recovery as she notched two wins yesterday in the 2008 International Tennis Federation 14-Under Championship at the Pusat Tenis Kemayoran courts in Jakarta, Indonesia.

Siso started off sloppily in the competition dropping her first two matches against Uzbekistan’s Nigina Abduraimova and India’s Vaidehi Bhagwat.

Yesterday, Siso seemed like she woke up on the other side of the bed as she scored two wins. Siso of University of San Carlos South Campus first trounced Evita Hapsari, 6-4, 4-1, and later defeated fellow Filipino Shanine Olivarez, 4-2, 4-0.

With her game picking up, Siso, who now sports a 2-2 win-loss record, keeps her hopes for a European trip alive.

The top six players in the boys and girls division in this competition will make up the team that will go to Europe to compete and to witness the brand of tennis there.

Siso still has a lot of ground to cover. Not having as much opportunities as other players to compete abroad, Siso is currently unranked in Asia. Her teammate, Olivarez, is currently No. 51 in the Asian 14-Under series as of Dec. 3, 2007. (MCB)
