Wednesday, March 26, 2008 Speak Out: Priests in mass for Lozada erred By Atty. Marcelo M. Bacalso San Carlos Heights, Quiot, Cebu City
I AM a former national president of the Catholic Faith Defenders, Inc. and is presently the legal counsel of the Cebu branch of that lay organization.
I strongly condemn what I call the un-catholic and offensive act of the nuns of the Holy Spirit Convent in Mabolo, Cebu City by having the sacrifice of the Holy Mass upon the behest of Rodolfo Noel Lozada Jr.
The two priests who offered the sacrifice of the Holy Mass should also be condemned. Frs. Christopher Exsala and Jesus Damaual and the “madres” of the Holy Spirit convent have violated the Catholic Church’s law against offering Mass that is linked with political or secular events.
Paragraph 78 of the Church’s “Redemptionis Sacramentum” says:
“It is not permissible to link the celebration of Mass to political or secular events, or to situations that are not fully consistent with the Magisterium of the Catholic Church.”
I am inclined to believe that the madres and the padres responsible for that un-catholic and offensive act are among the rebels against Church laws after Vatican II.
