Wednesday, March 26, 2008 3 players skip Cviraa debut for graduation rites
CEBU City will miss the services of three experienced players when they plunge into action in the Central Visayas Athletic Association football tournament at the Carlos P. Garcia Sports Complex in Tagbilaran City, Bohol.
Team captain and tough defender TJ Mateo along with goal keeper Paolo Pascual and Miles Chu will miss their first game tomorrow because they will have their graduation rites at Paref-Springdale in Cebu City.
But even with this set- back Paref-Springdale head coach Mario Ceniza is optimistic and believes they will get through this problem. Ceniza has faith and trusts on his player’s skills even without the veteran leadership of Mateo, Pascual and Chu.
“I’m still confident with my players even without Mateo, Pascual and Chu. Even if we are undermanned with only 12 players I know that the boys will sustain in the game because they are in top shape,” Ceniza told Sun.Star Cebu.
No errors
Ceniza believes that for a win to materialize, the remaining players should push their game by a notch and should avoid errors, fouls and injuries.
“The remaining players should step up. They shouldn’t commit any unnecessary errors and fouls and should watch themselves not to get injured,” said Ceniza.
Paref-Springdale will be facing the winner of the match between Lapu-Lapu and Bohol today.
Meanwhile, Cebu Province representatives Don Bosco Liloan will go head to head against Bayawan today.
Tuneup games
DB Lilioan has been in Bohol for tuneup games since last week and has reinforced the team with players from Badian and Balamban.
Due to the abundance of teams and the scarcity of venues, the playing time in the games has been shortened from 40 minutes a half to 30 minutes for the secondary level and from 30 minutes to 20 minutes per half for the elementary level.
Cebu City is the defending champion in both divisions, with Springdale forming the core of the high school team and Don Bosco College leading the elementary division. (EKA)
