Thursday, March 27, 2008 Arum: P320 million for Marquez vs. Pacquiao 3
NOW it’s $8 million.
Bob Arum, Manny Pacquiao’s promoter, said in a report posted at Philboxing.com they are willing to take on dethroned World Boxing Council super featherweight champion Juan Manuel Marquez for a third match if Marquez’s camp puts $8 million (or roughly P320 million) on the table.
Just hours after their second match last March 16 in Las Vegas, which Pacquiao won via split decision, Golden Boy Promotions offered Pacquiao $6 million for an immediate rematch with Marquez but that offer was rebuffed.
After arriving last Monday, Pacquiao said he is willing to face Marquez again “for the right prize.”
However, he also said that he will take on WBC lightweight champion David Diaz first before contemplating on a trilogy with Marquez.
Meanwhile, Pacquiao added two more accolades to his growing treasure chest with his induction to the Elorde Hall of Fame after winning the Boxer of the Year for seven straight years.
The 29-year-old Pacquiao was inducted to the Elorde Hall of Fame and was presented with the award by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo during the 8th Gabriel “Flash” Elorde Awards Night at the Manila Hotel last Tuesday. (EKA)
