Friday, March 28, 2008 Serna: 'Sikil,' Mar. 29, Toto concert, Apr. 2 By Roger Serna sounds & images
HOWEVER you spent the Holy Week, I hope it was meaningful, productive and spiritually uplifting.
As planned, I was at the Shrine of St. Therese in Barangay.Obispo, Calubian, Leyte, last Maundy Thursday and Good Friday. I was with some friends and new acquaintances all from the media (print and broadcast) and private sectors. Rey and Wilma Martinez were our hosts and our trip was courtesy of Joy Roble of Roble Shipping Lines with Recheilyn Dechosa as coordinator.
Doing the way of the cross at the shrine was the only activity we did last Thursday (a play on the Redeemer’s passion is planned). The reenactment of the seven last words of the Redeemer started at 11:30 a.m. the following day.
Speakers included Romy Limpangog and Rey Martinez for the sermon, Jun Gomez for the introduction, and Boy Patalinghug, Boboy Arante, Bonel Balingit (yes, the former PBA star), Joy Roble, Dino Eliseo, Sam Costanilla and Fermin Gomez delivering the first to the seventh word, respectively.
Father Pops Remandaban delivered his Lenten message to close the event. Atty. Owen Algozo, Tony Martinez and Jorge Judilla were the emcees. Choir members were Ester Alferez, Elma Vestil, Priscila Raganas, Melody, Jean Therese, Eking Fernandez and Hon. Roy Melgo of Borbon, Cebu. Dino Villarojo was on the keyboard.
The Canine Group (Bernard Son, Tony M and Janjan Cabahug) provided the communication link. Capitol consultant Manolette Dinsay, who dropped by the shrine, was offered to be one of the speakers next year.
A return trip to the shrine is scheduled on Apr. 5 with the overnight visit of the miraculous pilgrim image of Our Lady of Fatima of the Immaculate Heart from Brazil. A motorcade, procession and vigil with masses are in the list of activities.

Before going any further, let me congratulate couple Johnie and Flor Lim, the owners of Body & Sole Body Massage & Spa. It won as the best massage parlor and spa in the recent National Product Quality Exellence Awards held at the Caspian Room of the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel.
That’s another feather to the already well-decorated cap of the spa. More power!

Have you already secured tickets to the concert of the famous group Toto? That would be on Wed., Apr. 2, at the Pacific grand ballroom of the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel. Don’t tell me I did not remind you.
Toto is responsible for such hits as Rosanna, Africa, Pamela, Lea, Sarah, Angela, Hydra, I Can’t Hold You Back and others. See you, folks!

An independent digital movie that created quite a stir in the Manila circuit when it was shown there both for its daring in tackling the sensitive theme of homosexuality and the accompanying degrees of nudity is coming to town.
Starring neophytes Will Sandejas, Ken Escudero and Ashley Silverio, the movie Sikil was initially given an X-rating for the above reasons but was later allowed to be exhibited when director Roni Bertubin effected what the MTRCB had required.
Sikil is made by New Life Cinema and will be shown at Ultravistarama. Some of the stars are scheduled to visit Cebu on Mar. 29. Mark the date.

It’s summer vacation and it’s the most opportune time to give the vacationing kids and teens the chance to let go of their artistic leanings. Recognizing the opportunity, Little Boy Productions and the Sacred Heart School-Jesuit offer theater and creative writing workshops to build self confidence, develop innate talents and make friends among participants.
The workshops will run for three weeks starting Apr. 7 until the 27th. Visit Exams Advantage at Manroz Plaza along Gen. Maxilom Ave. or call 2549320 or 2330452 for details.
