2 policemen 'fail' drug test

TWO Cebu City police operatives initially tested positive in a surprise drug test by the PNP Crime Laboratory 7 yesterday morning.

But Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) Director Patrocinio Comendador, who requested the drug test on 90 policemen, said the initial result will still be submitted for a confirmatory test in Camp Crame.

Results of the confirmatory test will serve as basis for any action against the policemen, such as whether or not the CCPO will recommend to the Police Regional Office (PRO) 7 the filing of administrative charges.

The drug test, held at the CCPO’s conference room in Camp Sotero Cabahug, highlighted the intelligence coordinating conference that Comendador called for yesterday morning.

Members of the miscellaneous teams from 11 police stations and operatives from the Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Bureau (CIIB), Theft and Robbery Section (TRS) and Homicide Section attended the conference.

Comendador said he decided to subject the members of the miscellaneous teams and operatives of the special units to a drug test because they are the primary police personnel involved in the anti-illegal drug operations.

Guidelines

“They should set examples in the (anti-illegal drug) campaign,” he said.

During the conference, Comendador laid down policy directives and command guidelines in conducting the anti-criminality campaign and investigating crimes.

They also discussed gang wars in the city, which he now considers the number one problem the CCPO is facing.

At present, most crimes in the city are handled by the CIIB, Homicide or TRS.

Comendador said that under the new guidelines, police stations will now play a vital role in the investigation while the special units will merely assist the stations. (JST)
