Feel-good session with political allies

ABOUT 1,000 local government officials are expected to meet President Arroyo during her five-hour visit to Cebu today and express their continued support for her administration.

She will also speak before an estimated 1,000 officials from the Cebu City Government in another activity in the afternoon.

The President will be coming to Cebu from Surigao at 11:30 a.m. and will proceed to the Cebu International Convention Center (CICC) for the general assembly of all officials under the jurisdiction of the Cebu Provincial Government.

The assembly is being held with the theme “One Cebu for GMA.”

During the activity, six Cebu-based political organizations will present their resolutions reiterating their support for the Arroyo administration.

These groups are the Sangguniang Kabataan Federation, Association of Barangay Councils (ABC), Philippine Councilors’ League (PCL), Vice Mayors’ League, League of Municipalities of the Philippines and the Provincial Board Members’ League of the Philippines (PBMLP).

The PBMLP-Cebu will present the resolution passed by board members last Monday expressing outrage and condemning the statements made by Senate witness Rodolfo Noel Lozada Jr. during his recent visit to Cebu.

PCL members, on the other hand, passed unanimously a resolution supporting the President “in her battle against her accusers (so) the economic progress she had started will be finished by the end of her term.”

The ABC believes that Arroyo “deserves the gratitude and support of our people for the indefatigable and determined efforts to improve the quality of life of our people.”

The President is expected to stay at the CICC for an hour. From there, she will go to the White Gold House for the presentation of the Gawad Galing Pook award, which the Liga ng mga Lupong Tagapamayapa of Cebu City won.

Unlike in the CICC activity, the President will be delivering a speech before Cebu City officials, who will be led by Mayor Tomas Osmeña and Vice Mayor Michael Rama.

The President is expected to stay until 2 p.m.

She will then proceed to the Malacañang sa Sugbo for her private time before standing as principal sponsor at the wedding of the nephew of Presidential Assistant for the Visayas Felix Guanzon.

The President is expected to fly out of Cebu at 5 p.m. (RCT)
