Gang members in trouble

A 30-year-old son of the chief tanod of Barangay Ermita, Cebu City was mauled and gunned down by alleged members of the Crips gang in Sitio Bayong, Barangay Tisa last Wednesday night.

Christobelle Avenido, a resident of Tisa, was pronounced dead on arrival at the Cebu City Medical Center for multiple gunshot wounds.

An initial investigation conducted by a team of Homicide Section investigators revealed that the incident occurred around 8:30 p.m. while the victim was walking towards a store near his house.

The attack was witnessed by Avenido’s live-in-partner, Irene Ruiz.

Gang members Marlon G. Osorno, 23, Joseph Padin and a certain Gesto, who were drinking nearby, allegedly called Avenido’s attention and offered him a glass of liquor.

When Avenido refused, Padin reportedly kicked and boxed the victim, sending him to the ground.

At this instance, Gesto struck Avenido’s head with a bottle while Osorno, who was with a handgun, pumped several bullets on the victim.

Homicide Section Chief Mario Monilar said in an interview that an old conflict is one of the possible motives they are looking into.

Monilar said the Homicide Section will be filing appropriate charges against the suspects. (JST)
