Friday, March 28, 2008 Talk Back: Pensioners' plight By Illo V. Cardosa Malabuyoc, Cebu
THIS is a reaction to the Talkback item that came out on Feb. 19, 2008 titled “GSIS’ reply” by Ella E. Valencerina, GSIS vice president for public affairs.
While Ms. Valencerina defended GSIS from what I wrote (Speakout, Feb. 11, 2008), that the firm is bankrupt, she failed to explain why GSIS continues to withhold pensioners’ pension and benefits.
GSIS must have known that here in my place there are pensioners who have not received at their pension for two or four months or even more.
Ms. Valencerina proudly wrote that GSIS’ net income had reached P41 billion in 2006 and that the pension fund has been enjoying record performance.
But GSIS should note that we pensioners do not have interest on this matter. This could only be for publicity purposes. Figures can be bloated and we have no access to pension fund records.
This could also be a way of deflecting our attention away from our urgent clamor to stop the unnecessary suspension of pension and other issues.
We hope and pray that GSIS will understand the miserable plight of pensioners.
