CCSC to stage major meet for anniversary

THE Cebu City Sports Center is bracing for a huge event to commemorate its 15th year next year.

CCSC manager Ricky Ballesteros told Sun.Star Cebu yesterday that they will be holding a week-long multi-event competition on its 15th year anniversary next year.

“Honestly, we were planning to hold it this year. But because of the lack of time for preparations and it’s too late to look for sponsors, we have to forego with the activity and look forward to next year for a better event,” Ballesteros said.

The games, which will be called the Cebu City Sports Center Summer Games, will have badminton, table tennis, volleyball, track and field, swimming, taekwondo, karatedo, football, dancesports, boxing and gymnastics.

“There will be three categories, 12-Under for the elementary, 17-Under for the high school and 18-Above for the open division. But unlike the Milo Olympics where international campaigners are no longer allowed to compete, this tournament will be open to everybody as long as you fall into the age categories,” Ballesteros added.

Activity

Originally set this May, Ballesteros will now instead concentrate on its Summer Sports Program, which will be given more emphasis on its culminating activity.

“We wanted this event to be a high-level competition. Dili ni basta-basta nga event. We are now preparing for its logo, we will hand out brochures. Set this up professionally. But we need to raise a certain amount for its holding so we will be sourcing out for sponsors and maybe we will ask the Cebu City government for the medals and trophies,” said Ballesteros.

The Cebu City Sports Center was completed in 1994 for the Palarong Pambansa and has become a landmark for sports and entertainment activities since it opened to the public in May 1994. (RCM)
