Sunday, March 30, 2008 3 minors, 2 others hurt in shooting
FIVE people, including three minors, were injured in a shooting incident along New Imus Road, Barangay Lorega San Miguel, Cebu City at dawn yesterday.
The police believed it was another gang- or fraternity-related incident.
The attack happened hours after Evelio C. Abad, a 50-year-old boarding house caretaker, was shot in the back of the head in Lower Ylaya, barangay Talamban Friday night.
He is in critical condition after the .45 pistol bullet exited his face.
In both incidents, the perpetrators used motorcycles as getaway.
In the Lorega San Miguel attack, Homicide Section investigators led by PO3 Geoffrey Gutual identified the victims as Thadeo Z. Camacho, 18; Crisanto L. Sanchez, 42; and three minors, two of whom were 17, while the third was 16.
One of the 17-year-old victims is allegedly an Alpha Kappa Rho (Akrho) member, while the two other minors were brothers.
Information gathered by Gutual’s team revealed that Camacho and the three minors, with Bloods gang members only identified as Jogie and Wewaks, were sitting on a folding bed along the sidewalk when shot.
A red XRM motorcycle that two men rode stopped some five meters away from the victims when the back-rider opened fire, catching them off guard.
Camacho was hit in the chest and left leg while Sanchez was wounded in the chest.
Sanchez, who was nearby, was just sitting by the door of his house when hit by a stray bullet.
The three minors suffered gunshot wounds mostly in their legs.
Frat member
All five victims were taken to Cebu City Medical Center for treatment, while the motorcycle sped towards the neighboring Barangay Day-as after the attack.
The police said the 17-year-old Akrho member “positively” identified the gunman, who allegedly used to be a friend, as a certain Eric alias Titing of Barangay Cogon Central Ramos.
Bullet metal jacket
Scene of the Crime Operation (Soco) 7 personnel recovered 33 empty 9mm pistol shells, seven deformed bullet slugs, and a bullet metal jacket.
Gutual’s team went to Cogon Central Ramos and picked up a certain Eric, who is a member of Crips, a Bloods rival gang.
Eric, though, denied the allegation and agreed to undergo a paraffin test to prove his claim.
Gutual told reporters that they are still determining if the two men were fraternity or gang members.
In the Talamban shooting, PO3 Julius Mabunay said the assailants rode a red Honda XRM and wore jackets and baseball caps.
He said Abad went outside of the boarding house under his watch around 8 p.m. after a neighbor called that people were looking for him outside.
He was by the roadside when shot for no apparent reason in the back of the head. The perpetrators fled towards Barangay Tawason, Mandaue City.
Responding Talamban policemen brought Abad to the North General Hospital. (JST)
