Sunday, March 30, 2008 Imports show stuff in Fiesta Cup opener
MANILA—Which between Barangay Ginebra and Red Bull gets a better import is the key to victory as the 2008 PBA Fiesta Conference formally opens today with the traditional double-header at the Araneta Coliseum.
The Barakos and the Gin Kings tangle at 6:50 p.m., while the Welcoat Dragons and the Air 21 Express meet in the opening match at 4:30 p.m.
Red Bull, which lost Jameel Watkins to Magnolia found a better replacement in Adam Parada, who will be the tallest among all imports at 7-foot-0.
Parada was among the last cut in the Los Angeles Lakers lineup for the 2005 NBA season and also saw action for the Sacramento Kings in the most recent NBA summer league.
A product of California-Irvine University and a mainstay of the Mexican national team, he will be facing Ginebra’s Rahshon Turner, a 6-foot-7 center-forward, who once played with Georgetown University in New York.
The cast of imports for the reinforced tourney has been completed with 6-foot-8 Steven Thomas of Middle Tennessee University playing for Air21 Express, while Welcoat Dragons will parade 6-foot-11 Jason Keep, a center-forward from University of San Diego and 6-foot-1 guard Cory Santee of Texas Christian University.
