Cebu City nails 15th overall Cviraa title

CEBU City nailed its 15th overall title in the Central Visayas Regional Athletic Association (Cviraa) after racking up 771 points in six days of competition, which will wrap up this afternoon at the Carlos P. Garcia Sports Complex in Tagbilaran, Bohol.

The team events were finished yesterday and Cebu City won half of the championship titles contested yesterday to add 52 gold medals, making it all the more impossible for other teams to catch up.

Cebu City will still play in one last championship today in the secondary girls volleyball competition, but whatever the outcome, it will not affect Cebu’s win.

At a distant second is Cebu Province, which has 456 points. Bohol improved to third place with 195.2 points, while Mandaue is at fourth with 195.2 points.

In table tennis the team, composed mainly of players from University of Cebu collected a total of 12 gold medals after winning three of the four team events—elementary boys and the secondary boys and girls. All three teams came home with unblemished 8-0 win-loss records from the eliminations until the finals.

The elementary boys composed of Dannel Jay Tormis, Jean Phillippe Honoridez, Lemuel Agbon and Philip Belda trounced Cebu Province in the finals.

The high school girls teams of Jennifer Jacalan, Mary Angeli Motel, Elona Dane Tormis and Girlie Apas also won over Cebu Province, while the boys team Jeffrey Apas, Edward Jordan Obong, Val Stephen Jaca and Gino Selma won over Mandaue.

The other events that Cebu City won were the softball secondary girls class and baseball. Cebu City also topped the football competitions in both the elementary and high school divisions.

The elementary boys sailed through an easy championship match after their opponent from Bayawan conceded. (MCB with NSM)
