Monday, March 31, 2008 Cebu to host cluster elimination for softball
THE Amateur Softball Association of the Philippines (Asaphil) is now finalizing the details for the cluster elimination of the 2008 National Softball Open Championships, which will be held in Lipa City, Batangas on May 12 to 22.
RP Blu Boys head coach Zacharias “Saki” Bacarisas told Sun.Star Cebu that all the details of the cluster elimination will be finalized this Tuesday in the meeting of the Asaphil board, which is headed by president Jean-Henri Lhuillier.
“As of now, everything is on schedule aside from the final details of the cluster elimination. Cebu will be hosting the Visayas cluster elimination and Davao will be for the Mindanao,” Bacarisas said.
Cebu will be defending the national title won by the H & B softball team last year in Pasig City.
“I just hope that we can come up with a very strong team for Cebu this year because we really want to keep the title,” said Bacarisas, who was the short stop in last year’s champion team.
Six current and two former Cebuano national softball team members and one baseball player currently based in Manila are raring to be included in the lineup. However, the guidelines in the inclusion of active members of the RP team has not yet been finalized.
In Cebu the former members of the national RP softball and baseball teams are also excited to be in the squad, which will be finalized once the guidelines for the team composition will be done. (RCM)
