Monday, March 31, 2008 USJ-R suprises UV in MLKP beach volleyball
FROM out of nowhere, the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) pulled the rug from all the other teams in the 2nd M. Lhuillier Kwarta Padala All-Ladies Beach Volley Open when it suddenly found itself at the top of the standing following an impressive upset in the final day of eliminations yesterday at the Wiggy’s Beach Resort in Lilo-an, Cebu.
USJ-R Team A of former RP Youth team members Michelle Simbajon and Genie Sabas made up for their bad start in the competition and bashed the strongest team in the competition, University of the Visayas, 25-21, to top bracket A with a 5-1 win-loss slate.
The win smeared UV’s erstwhile clean slate that they kept in the two years of the competition.
Going against Nestea national champions Janez Armie Igot and Jusabelle Brillo seemed overwhelming for USJ-R at first as it found itself in disarray against UV’s strong and steady start. (MCB)
