Inmates dance 'Gloria' tune for Vidal

RODOLFO Noel “Jun” Lozada Jr. is not welcome at the Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center (CPDRC).

In fact, the dancing inmates’ latest number, performed to the 1980’s pop hit “Gloria” by Laura Branigan, is meant to be the inmates’ protest over Lozada’s recent broadsides against Cebu Archbishop Ricardo Cardinal Vidal.

Capitol consultant on security Byron Garcia said that the prisoners are still irked at Lozada for insinuating that the Cebu archbishop heads the “Archdiocese of Malacañang.”

Controversy

Garcia said that the inmates “idolized” Cardinal Vidal, especially after the prelate visited the provincial jail last October as part of the Prison Awareness Month celebration.

It was an unexpected visit that left an imprint on the inmates’ hearts, he said.

So when Lozada insinuated that their idol was being manipulated in the political controversies of the Arroyo administration, the inmates wanted to start a protest through a noise barrage.

“I said no and told them that that is a thing of the past, and we should just stick to dancing,” said Garcia.

The inmates, he pointed out, dance with clenched fists as a form of protest. For about six hours last Saturday, the video of the inmates’ dance-protest could be viewed on the video-sharing site You Tube.

But if Lozada ever plans to visit the inmates to win them over, Garcia said, “Basin makunit-kunitan lang na siya didto (He might just get ripped to shreds). Cebu is not the venue for his personal motives.”

“We will not give him that privilege. Did he think of the cardinal’s fans when he spoke ill of the cardinal?” continued Garcia.

“Cardinal Vidal is instrumental in the spiritual rehabilitation of the inmates. They (learned to) believe in God through the cardinal.” (JGA)
