Cebu City bags 2 titles in final day of Cviraa

A FOUR-setter win of the Cebu City elementary volleyball team composed mainly of players of University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) and an emphatic basketball win put a telling end to Cebu City’s win in the Central Visayas Regional Athletic Association which wrapped up yesterday in Tagbilaran Bohol.

Cebu City, coached by Jordan Paca, defeated the Fr. Rolando Manayon-coached Lapu-Lapu City, 25-18, 25-20, 15-25 and 25-22, to earn the right to represent the region in the Palarong Pambansa.

In the elementary basketball, Cebu City had to overhaul a huge edge enjoyed by its opponent, Dumaguete City, to wrest the championship plum.

Dumaguete City enjoyed a twice to beat advantage going into the finals and Cebu defeated them twice ending with a 73-61 win in the final game.

In the final tally, Cebu City collected 811 points after dominating most of the events in the regional competition. The winners will be representing the region in the Palarong Pambansa later this month.

The winners will just have a brief rest as the annual Palaro will be held in Palawan in the middle of this month.

The bulk of Cebu City’s points came from the secondary division, which scored 478 points, while the rest came from the elementary division.

Cebu’s points came mostly from the medal-rich events athletics and swimming, which the Cebuanos dominated. Cebu also pulled off impressive finishes in tennis, table tennis, gymnastics, badminton, football, taekwondo among others.

Taking second place is Cebu Province with 476 points, while Bohol has 377 points. The rest in the tally are Mandaue (196.2 points), Dumaguete (193), Tagbilaran City(119.9), Oriental Negros(102.4), Lapu-lapu(81.5), Talisay(79), Danao(55.4), Bayawan(22), Siquijor(17.5), Tanjay(10), Bais(5). (MCB)
