Wednesday, April 02, 2008 City 'loses' beat patrol cops to scouts training
MORE than 100 rookie policemen on detailed assignment at the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) will be pulled out starting tomorrow to begin their scout training at the Regional Mobile Group (RMG) 7 in the southern town of Sibonga, Cebu.
The termination of the detail status of 142 police officers practically diminishes the beat patrol policemen assigned in the different key areas in the city, a police official said.
These policemen are presently assigned in the 11 police stations and special units of the CCPO, mostly serving as beat patrol policemen.
The beat patrol is one of the the police visibility measures adopted by the CCPO, particularly in the downtown crime prone areas.
CCPO Director Patrocinio Comendador hopes that the augmentation force expected to replace them will arrive soon.
Comendador said the Police Regional Office (PRO) 7 plans to provide at least 250 police recruits who have just graduated from the Regional Training School.
Investigation
Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Bureau Chief George Ylanan said a vacuum of personnel is expected with the termination of detail of the rookie policemen.
In the case of CIIB, Ylanan said the 27 policemen detailed to him are the ones in charge of the random checkpoints day and night. They are under the supervision of four organic CIIB personnel.
While waiting for the augmentation force to arrive, Ylanan said the CIIB personnel will have to do double tasking because they cannot jeopardize the continuous conduct of checkpoint operations. (JST)
