Barrita: Choy's justice
By Eddie O. Barrita
Small Bites

RTC Judge Estela Alma Singco convicted a man accused of trying to kill broadcaster Choy Torralba and ordered him to spend eight to 12 years in the slammer.

Sweet justice and Choy lived to see justice was done.

“Mr. Injustice is killed, super-killed. Kay tarong ang huwes ug sakto ang hukom,” Choy told reporters after the guilty verdict was handed down.

Choy lived to tell the court his tale.

How about those who lost their lives for a Nokia?

A joke goes that an old man, when asked by a friend how he wants to go, said he wished to be shot by a jealous lover.

Be careful what you wish for.

It turned out the food crisis was not limited to the Philippines alone.

A Reuters report said the whole world faces a food crisis and grain prices have been on the rise for five years, ending decades of cheap food.

As usual, we were caught by surprise.

***

Most countries treat food security as national security such that in China, their government considers rice stocks as a national secret.

In the Philippines, I hope there are enough rice and corn stocks and it’s not a secret.

***

Some sectors said the 7.3 percent growth in the gross domestic product (GDP) last year was a fantasy as Filipinos living on less than a dollar a day rose from 30 to 33 percent.

In other words, the poor were left behind in our rush to progress.

SPO1 Julius Ompad, Waterfront Police Station chief investigator, hurdled the Bar exams on his seventh attempt.

This brand new compañero was living his motto: “A quitter never wins; a winner never quits.”

Defense officials are going to buy 18 brand new night-capable attack helicopters worth some P3.2 billion for the Air Force.

The Air Force is also expecting delivery of 18 T41 trainer aircraft donated by South Korea and another 18 SF 260 Marchetti advance trainer planes.

Hurry, before the Air Force becomes a dodo.
