Wednesday, April 02, 2008 Casino Español to stage 2nd Copa de Casino
CASINO Español de Cebu will stage its 2nd Copa de Casino sports event to promote fitness and healthy awareness for its members.
The event features badminton, tennis, golf, billiards, and poker and will also add swimming event and bowling.
At the event’s launching last Monday night at the Casino Español, Copa de Casino Español overall Chairman Edito “Nonoy” Tirol said, “Our objective is to promote camaraderie, fitness and health consciousness to our members and to highlight the sports facilities of the club, after all we, are a leisure and sports club.”
Tirol said they moved this year’s competition to early May to accommodate the children of its members.
“The main reason we transfer the event from last week of April towards the first week of May because the children don’t have classes during this time” said Tirol, who believe that by moving the dates towards May, it attracts more participants.
Tirol also expects that this year’s participants will surpass the approximately 500 athletes who joined last year.
All the events will be staged at the Casino Español except golf, which will be played at the Alta Vista Golf and Country Club.
They will also be exclusively for Casino Español members, dependents (children) and their invited guests.
The swimming competition will be launched for the kids since more of them will be joining this year, said Tirol.
On the other hand, Sun.Star sports columnist and event sports director John Pages officially opened the Copa de Casino Español during the launching with the lighting of the torch yesterday together with Joe Camaya and Heidi Mesina.

The launching was graced by Casino Español president Manny Sainz and Vice-President Gabriel Leyson.
