Wednesday, April 02, 2008 Cebu softball players eager for Cluster Meet
CEBU softball players are thrilled and excited for the planned hosting of the Visayas cluster elimination of the 2008 National Softball Open Championship.
Cebu City was picked by the Amateur Softball Association of the Philippines (Asa-Phil) board to host the qualifying tournament for the annual Summer Softball Jam, which will be held in Lipa City in Batangas from May 12 to 22.
“Well, it’s an honor for us to host the cluster elimination. The hosting of the national championship might have slipped from our hands but a regionwide competition is more than enough to boost the confidence of our players,” said local softball tournament organizer and coach Dionisio Bacarisas.
Preparation
Although the date of the cluster elimination is yet to be announced, Bacarisas is closely working with the Asa-Cebu Chapter president Doroteo Salazar to make the necessary preparation.
The Asa-Phil board held a meeting yesterday to discuss the projects and the national championship that also includes the dates of the cluster eliminations around the country.
“We better be ready because we have to start right away when Asa-Phil will tell us to make the preparation. We might be hosting at least four out-of-town teams from Bacolod, Leyte and Bohol plus we have our local teams that are also eager to try to make it to the national tournament,” added Bacarisas.
As earlier planned, two teams will qualify from each cluster, which includes Visayas, Mindanao, Luzon and NCR.
Lipa City is allowed to field a team and Asa-Phil will have one team invited to play to make the field of 10 teams. (RCM)
