Thursday, April 03, 2008 Utzurrum: Happenings around town By Chinggay V. Utzurrum the scene
ONGOING at the 856 Gallery is VDO, a painting exhibit featuring the works of seven Thai artists: Arkom Thongprong, Kun Jira Pokaseang, Tawan Wattuya, Somphot Mailarksee, Sitthisak Natheechaichana, Vittaya Sudprasert, and Yotaka Polasak. The gallery is located at the second floor of Business Walls, No. 856, A.S. Fortuna St., Mandaue City.
An enthusiastic Ticha Chotchung, managing director of Bangkok’s Gossip Gallery, introduced us to three of the artists over lunch at Olio Restaurant.
Why gossip? According to publicity whiz, Jing Ramos, “gossip” here refers not so much to “buzz” but to communication and artistic expression.
The are 14 canvasses on dramatic display, in oil, acrylic, pastels and mixed media. Don’t miss these unique works. Ongoing till April 25.

Youthful and dynamic entrepreneurial couple Joe and Lalaine Espiritu always finds a cause for celebration with their various workers. This time, it’s an annual get-together with their foodhandlers and baristas from their two branches of Gloria Jeans Coffees, and beauticians from X-Salon, a high-end beauty-cum-slimming salon.
Ever in time with current marketing trends, Lalaine, managing director of Zobella Group of Companies, is at present pursuing a master of entrepreneurship course at the Asian Institute of Management.
This is to better equip her in expanding her coffee chain, now also at SM Northwing, Jollibee, Greenwich Cinema, and X-Salon Hot Hedz.
More power, Lalaine!

Congratulations to this burg’s newest nursing review center, Edgeworth Review and Educational Center, which trains our talented and compassionate young women in the lost value of care-giving. Will our country finally be able to excel in the highly competitive nursing profession and turn out to be top notchers? We hope so.

The various Quota International Clubs in Cebu are certainly dead serious about raising funds for their many charitable projects. One such project that has caught fire with parents is the King and Queen of Hearts. It has been so successful, the Quota Club of Talisay has scheduled it annually.
The Kiddie King and Queen this year were garbed in royal blue for the King, Emmanuel Fernando Coronel, and sky-blue for Queen Simone Maxine Dominique Omega.
Another queen, Mariquita Salimbangon Yeung, she of the flawless face and a heart of gold, graced the event by crowning the royals. The event was hosted professionally by the incomparable Jude Bacalso. Kudos to the ladies behind this regal treat.
