City summons law enforcers

THE Cebu City Council yesterday asked officials of law enforcement agencies to appear in its April 23 session to update the body on the city’s peace and order situation.

This, after Councilor Arsenio Pacaña delivered a privilege speech almost two months after expressing his concern over the safety of Cebuanos.

Last Feb. 13, the council asked for the “strict implementation of the Anti-Fencing Law” to discourage the stealing of cell phones.

Pacaña mentioned yesterday the death of nursing student Ruby Jade Ruba, killed by a robber who got her cellular phone last March 6, and of college student Lucky Pitogo. Pitogo, a University of the Visayas basketball player, was shot by three motorcycle-riding men who tried to grab his phone in Liloan town last March 29.

Through a motion by Councilor Sylvan Jakosalem, the council asked Cebu City Police Office Director Patrocinio Comendador, along with the heads of the different stations and special units, to attend their third session this month.

The council also asked the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group 7 and the National Bureau of Investigation 7 officials to attend the same session.

Vice Mayor Michael Rama asked the Sangguniang Panlungsod secretary to ask school officials for data on how many of their students have been robbed. (RHM)
