No brownout, power firm says

THE National Power Corp. (NPC) assured a continued supply of power even if a strike pushes through at a power complex in Naga City.

“There will be no power supply disruption,” said NPC spokesman Dennis Gana after NPC president Cyril del Callar met SPC Power Corp. president Dennis Villareal.

The Salcon Power Independent Union (SPIU) filed a notice of strike before the National Conciliation and Mediation Board (NCMB) last March 14.

It said that if no amicable settlement will be reached, they will stage a strike after the 30-day cooling-off period will end on April 14.

SPIU secretary Noel Tolentino said that if the strike will push through, the blame should be placed on the management for its refusal to recognize the workers’ union.

Optimistic

NCMB 7 Director Edmundo Mirasol said that he will conduct another conciliatory meeting on April 8. He is optimistic that the dispute will be solved.

“We need to keep the three power plants inside the Naga complex up and running. This is our commitment to the people of Cebu and the Visayas,” Gana said in statement. (EOB)
