Montayre named new CebuFa president

THE top four vote getters of last March 29’s elections of the Cebu Football Association were designated as the new officers of the organization.

After acquiring the highest votes in the recent elections Richard Montayre of the Cebu Amateur Football Club was assigned as the new president of CebuFA during their first board meeting last Monday at the Golden Cowry restaurant.

Along with Montayre, Tony Moraza of Aboitiz was named the new vice- president, while Don Bosco’s Bro. Mari Aberasturi was named as the new secretary general, while Ricky Dakay was tapped as the new treasurer.

Montayre led in the Cebu FA elections with 31 votes, while Dakay and Aberasturi got 30 votes each and Moraza had 24.

This coming Monday, Montayre will meet with the other members of the board and assign the different committees and discuss the upcoming tournaments and the Visayas Eliminations.

Meeting

Montayre said the new board needs to meet frequently to sort things out.

The other members of the board are Rachel Genco, Manfred Schuwerk, Eleazer Toledo and Adonis Quitoy.

“The board needs to meet three times a month because we a have a lot of ironing to do,” Montayre told Sun.Star Cebu in an interview yesterday.

Committee

Aside from mapping out the schedule of the local tournaments, the new board will also have to assign the different heads of the CebuFA committee.

Montayre will also schedule a meeting with the coaches of the different schools, clubs and teams to discuss wo will represent Cebu City in upcoming national matches.

The new Cebu FA president said that the goal of the new board is to “unify Cebu football.”

The election of the new officers closes a tumultous chapter of Cebu football.

The election was supposed to be held in June last year but was moved to December, based on the new constitution and by laws of the group.

Another election last February was thwarted after the coaches and other stakeholders rejected the new constitution.

That stalemate prompted the Philippine Football Federation to tell local stakeholders to put up an Ad Hoc committee to oversee the elections. (EKA)
