Friday, April 04, 2008 Quijada: Beat the heat By Jadis Quijada Shout out
TO be taken quite literally, what better way to cool down than to go to the mall especially when the tropical heat (compounded by the humidity) tries to dry up your sunny mood. Besides the air-condition comfort, a lot of goings-on keep fine summer days cooked up in the mall, rather well-spent.
At the epicenter for example of last Saturday’s global event, the big simultaneous power switch-off for Earth Hour took place at SM City Cebu. Doing their fair part in the green movement, grocery shoppers in SM can easily notice the green bag, which they are encouraged to use over and over again instead of the regular plastic bags.
Besides saving the environment while in the mall, another brilliant thing-to-do for guardians, parents and baby-sitters in general, is taking hyperactive children to the malls for two-week-long summer classes (check out the sidebar on the main article for schedule). After dropping them off to their regular sessions, you can ably do your round of errands around the mall, from grocery shopping to paying the bills.
HOT JEANS, COLD DESSERT
Another newcomer has just opened shop. Taking another space at the SM Northwing, the Red Hot Chilli Jeans outlet brings in a whole new line of denim products. See for yourself the different takes on spicing the run-of-the-mill design on every girl’s staple. Besides the sexy bottoms, the store likewise carries casual tops that are good light choices for beating the heat.
And if you must have your dessert fix, there are many healthy options available. While I’m still waiting for more yogurt places to open up, the Health Option is a station for those on a green diet, and for those with an unforgiving sweet tooth, cereal-centered desserts are the way to go (Cerealicious Cebu- 2/F i2 Bldg, It Park, Cebu).
